AllemaniACs at INSITE 2008

Posted on September 23, 2008 at 4:53 PM by AllemaniACs RSS

INSITE 2008 Exhibitors AwardThe AllemaniACs have been invited by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research to the  International Science, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (INSITE) 2008 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr. Alexander Ferrein and Tim Niemueller represented the AllemaniACs at the German booth.

We showed our new humanoid robot Nao and the basic abilities it learned in the short time since we have it. Our efforts are embedded into an international research cooperation with the University of Cape Town (UCT). Our fellows from UCT attended the exhibition as well also showing one of our Naos and their small-size robot which could be remote controlled by visitors.

We were part of the German booth at the exhibition. It was already the second time that the AllemaniACs participated in this event after the last event in 2006. The German booth received the INSITE 2008 Exhibitors Award in recognition of the contribution to the success of the INSITE exhibition.

Many more visitors came this year to see the advances in technology and chances and potential for South Africa. The South African minister of science and Technology,  Mosibudi Mangena, visited the German booth for more information about German-South African cooperations and activities.

The AllemaniACs consider the event a great success. Especially meeting and working with our research fellows and demonstrating the achieved results was a valuable experience.

You can find photos from the INSITE 2008 in our gallery .
